This is a plastic document that allows you to receive medical care in another EU or European Economic Area state for free or at a reduced price.
That is, if you left Ireland for Europe and got sick there, you can visit a doctor and get treatment there for free or cheaper.
But, the program will work if you are on vacation or on a short-term stay of less than 3 months.
Students in Europe can be considered short-term visitors for up to a full academic year!
A separate medical card is required for each family member.
Applying for and receiving a card is free of charge
Ukrainians under temporary protection in Ireland can also receive ECMS.
From the personal experience of our readers: after completing the online application, the card arrives by mail within 10 days on average.
You can apply for a card:
In person at your local health authority, except Dublin North West, Dublin South, Kildare and West Wicklow.
Online www2.hse.ie, only if you have a health card or a Medicines Payment Scheme card and live in Ireland.
