Thousands of people, including Ukrainians, have received double payments.
Yesterday, over 670,000 families received 280 euros per child, instead of the usual 140 euros monthly. These pre-holiday payments are the second of their kind this year and were announced as part of the cost of living package in the 2025 budget.
Additionally, unemployment benefits were also paid double, for those who receive them. It’s worth noting that recipients of the new BOTP payment of 38.80 euros per week will not be eligible for additional bonuses.
The first double payment was made in November, and the second and final Christmas bonus was sent yesterday.
Who receives the bonus payment in December?
All social welfare recipients, including parents receiving child benefits, as well as those eligible for unemployment assistance.
Do you need to apply for additional payments?
No, applications are not required. Payments are automatically transferred to bank accounts or post offices.
Does the number of social welfare payments affect the amount of assistance?
Yes, if you receive multiple types of social welfare (for example, as a single parent and for caring for a child with a disability), each will be paid at double the rate.
In Ireland, double payments have become a key government initiative aimed at supporting citizens during challenging times of rising living costs.
