Norway
Ukrainians under temporary protection in Norway receive monthly payments of 520 euros. Conditions: they must live in refugee reception centers and register with the National Registration Center. For those who want to return to Ukraine, the authorities pay 1,500 euros.
Romania
Previously, Ukrainians were paid 2,000 lei per month (150 euros) for singles and 750 lei per month (402 euros) for families. They had to register at the employment center or have an official job, and also enroll their children in local schools. According to government decision No. 96/29.06.2024, from July 1st this year, one-time housing payments were assigned for 3 consecutive months. In April, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) reported that no funds were allocated in Romania for financial support of Ukrainian refugees.
Portugal
Ukrainians with temporary protection receive payments under the “Income for Social Integration (RSI)” program. The amount of assistance is less than 200 euros per month for adults and 100 euros per child. However, these payments are only for those who have no other sources of income.
Ireland
Ukrainians in Ireland previously received slightly more than 200 euros per week for an adult. Changes occurred this year. For those living in state housing with a full range of services (food, laundry, etc.), payments were reduced to 38.80 euros per week for an adult and 29.80 euros for a child.
Estonia
Ukrainians can receive a one-time compensation for rent up to 1,200 euros.
Denmark
The amount of assistance depends on many conditions. All details can be found at the Danish Immigration Service Citizens Service. Additional financial assistance is paid by individual communes in the country.
France
Material assistance is paid monthly. The daily payment is 6.80 euros for one person. For two people – 10.20 euros, for three – 13.60 euros. Material assistance for four and five people will be 17 euros and 20.40 euros respectively.
Ukrainians can also receive free food and essential items.
Austria
Austria continues to provide financial assistance to Ukrainians. Specifically, funds of 40 euros per month, housing subsidies, 150 euros per year for clothing, and up to 200 euros per year per child to purchase school supplies. However, the authorities are now talking about stopping financial assistance for Ukrainians who own a car.
Bulgaria
Bulgaria provides a one-time cash assistance of 900 leva (460 euros) to vulnerable refugee categories for basic and winter needs.
United Kingdom
In the UK, Ukrainians receive a one-time assistance of 200 pounds per person. Adults can also receive up to 480 pounds monthly under the Universal Credit program. An additional 92 pounds per month is paid for one child, and 76 pounds for each subsequent child.
Latvia
Ukrainians in Latvia can receive one-time financial assistance in a crisis situation of 272 euros for an adult and 190 euros for a child. In 2025, these payments will be increased to 343 euros for an adult and 240 euros for each child.
They also provide monthly financial assistance of 109 euros for the first person and 76 euros for other family members.
Lithuania
Lithuania provides one-time financial assistance of 176 euros to vulnerable refugee categories for essential expenses.
Netherlands
Unemployed Ukrainians in the Netherlands living in provided housing are entitled to financial support of 260 euros. The amount consists of two parts: 205 euros as payment for food and 55 euros for other personal needs. So if the center provides three meals, the municipality will only issue 55 euros per month.
Payments will stop if the person finds a job and housing.
Germany
A new type of unemployment assistance called Bürgergeld (citizen’s income) was introduced in Germany. This assistance is paid by the Job Center and is provided to people whose income is below the subsistence level and who are unable to work. Ukrainian refugees with temporary protection in Germany are also included in this category.
In 2024, the Bürgergeld assistance amount is:
– Single persons/single parents – 563 euros
– In a family pair, per partner – 506 euros
– Adults in institutions – 451 euros
– Teenagers 14-17 years old – 471 euros
– Children 6-13 years old – 390 euros
– Children up to 5 years old – 357 euros
For example, a family consisting of a mother and two children aged 6 and 14 receives 1,424 euros. Additionally, the employment center provides 750-850 euros per person for rent.
Poland
Assistance can only be claimed by parents with children. Parents of schoolchildren up to 18 years old can apply for payments under the “Family 800” and “Good Start” programs, depending on whether the child is studying in a Polish educational institution.
Czech Republic
During the first 150 days of stay in the Czech Republic, humanitarian assistance is provided at the subsistence level, and then reduced to the minimum necessary for existence.
Sweden
Ukrainians can receive daily assistance from the Swedish Migration Agency, which is 71 Swedish kronor per day (7 euros). Those participating in the social insurance program receive 308 Swedish kronor (30 euros) per day.
Switzerland
Switzerland may deprive Ukrainians of the right to asylum. This concerns those arriving from areas “where there is no war”.
The House of Representatives partially approved the Senate’s proposal to limit the issuance of “S permits” to Ukrainians fleeing the war. The approved amendment applies only to Ukrainians and does not extend to other asylum seekers with S status.
