1.1 billion inhabitants of the planet live in conditions of extreme poverty – UN

They analyzed statistics for 10 years in 112 countries, where 6.3 billion people live, and also conducted an additional survey in 20 countries.

“In countries currently at war, an average of 34.8% of the population lives in poverty, while in countries where there is no conflict, only 10.9% of people belong to the poor,” the organization emphasized.

In conflict-affected countries, more than 25% of poor people do not have access to electricity, there is a high child mortality rate (8%), there are problems with nutrition (20.8%) and children’s education (17.7%).

Among the countries with a high level of poverty, the UN named Afghanistan, “where in the turbulent period from 2015 to 2023, the number of poor people increased by 5.3 million people.”

“More than half of poor people are children under the age of 18. Globally, 27.9% of children live in poverty compared to 13.5% of adults. 828 million poor people do not have adequate sanitary conditions, 886 million people do not have adequate housing,” the UN noted.
